Happy New Year, everyone! It’s finally 2021. While 2020 had a lot of terrible things in it, I was able to find a lot of good in it. In myself, in others, and in artistic endeavors. I love that. Anyway – this week’s share we’re mostly going to be looking at the intro to the playing cards I made back in July! I hope you enjoy them.
The first four drawings are bonuses outside of the playing cards. I do enjoy these a lot, and I think I started to push the “overexposure” look to create some interesting images. The color versions end up looking so different from the pen outlines. I like the contrast between them.
As for the playing cards – wow! What a fun project that was. I originally was going to do tarot cards (which is a 2021 goal), but I decided I would get my feet wet with playing cards. It really worked out. I had such a great turnout, and sold nearly all the cards I ordered. I still have three more decks as of January 1st, 2021, so feel free to contact me if you’re interested in purchasing a deck!
I wanted the four suits to be considerably different – with each of them having distinct looks. Essentially, I created a world where the four suits were engaged in a war. The Kings are all warriors, the Queens are holding down the fort, the Jacks are all growing up in an uncertain world. Clubs are represented by clovers and nature. Hearts are represented by a general “high fashion royalty” feel and, of course, hearts. Spades are true warlords, adorned in serpentine horns (you’ll see more of this in next week’s share). Diamonds are spikes and yellow diamonds. I ended up loving how they all came together. I hope you do, too.
Fun fact – “Queen of Diamonds” is based off of me when I was doing drag back in 2015!
As always – I hope you’ve enjoyed this week’s share. Please check out my more recent posts, and send me a message on instagram or on here if you’re interested in any of my pieces!
