Hello, hello! I really love this week’s shares – we’ve got giant squids, reef sharks, tuna, and more sea creatures.

At this point in my snorkeling series, I was feeling quite happy with nearly everything I was illustrating. The first time I ever snorkeled was in Jordan at the Red Sea. It was a very panicky situation for me, since I had never practiced snorkeling before. I wanted to get better before traveling to Hawaii back in November of 2019, so I spent a lot of time snorkeling in Lake Michigan… which is quite murky. BUT I got the hang of it. By the time I got to Hawaii, I was ready and I was so blown away by my experience snorkeling there.

One of my favorite moments was the first time I saw a green sea turtle. I was about to exit the water to take a break, and sure enough, not three feet away was a green sea turtle. I’d always thought they were cute, but it wasn’t until I saw them in real life that I realized just how majestic they are. And most of these sea creatures are majestic. I loved spending time with them underwater.

I was snorkeling at this place called Two Step and people had swam pretty far out and seemed to be huddled near something. I was really frightened to be so far away from land, but I decided to find the courage to see what they were checking out and I’m glad I did because there were – NO JOKE – over forty spinner dolphins playing in the water. It was one of the best experiences of my life.

So, yeah, I think those moments in the water sort of informed my love of snorkeling, and also inspired this underwater series. I hope you enjoy this week’s share!
