Cool Hair, Exposed Insides, and Geometrical Shapes – March 11th to March 17th

We’ve got cool hair, exposed insides, and geometrical shapes this week, people! Fasten your seatbelts or whatever! I’m excited to share these pieces with you all.

Here we’ve got Melon Man! I love how he turned out – especially the color version. I think I had gotten a little bored with flowers and plants (probably my most common, perhaps overused theme in my art) and wanted to start looking into some fresh options. So, how about geometrical shapes? I chose to warp Melon Man’s clothing and body parts into something other than what they typically are.

I’m so happy with this color scheme. Comprised of mostly complementary colors (yellow & purple, green & red), I think it makes for a vibrant, fun drawing.

One of my friends told me this picture reminds them of Lady Gaga – the hair and the eyes. I could see it a little bit! Once again, I tried toying with strange geometrical pairings: note her wrist and her “shoulder”.

I am a huge fan of color coordinating. This image, again, is primarily based on complementary colors (red & green), but some orange and pink as well, which are sisters to red on the color wheel. I love her green lipstick.

Bon Bon is an incredible creature – you should check out their instagram @wannabonbon. You will not be disappointed! I tried to capture their likeness in this photo, and while I didn’t do the best job, I think there is perhaps some resemblance!

Add a little color to make things better! Bon Bon’s jacket wasn’t actually ripped like in this drawing, but I chose to focus on the bust instead of adding in the rest of the torso/legs/etc.

split, b&w

I love this piece. The look in their eyes worked out so well, and I love the distortion and gore of the split face.

Yay! It worked out so well, to me. If I was re-drawing this today, I think I would move up the left nipple some more, and extend the left shoulder out. That said, this is still one of my favorites.

a black and white drawing of a floating alien head with tendrils falling out their neck
be a body, b&w

I’m not particularly in love with this one, but I figured I’d share it anyway. It almost reminds me of one of those entrapped heads in Futurama. But, there’s nothing particularly special about this one to me. I think I was just having a quick-sketch day.

Adding color makes it a little better, though! I think.

a black and white drawing of a sort of princess with amputated limbs, lips and eyes where the bones should be
strange super hero, b&w

Perhaps a little overly ambitious? I think I had a lot of ideas floating around for this piece, but nothing ended up being super cohesive. It’s a bunch of random ideas and thoughts married together.

Alas, I shall call her a strange super hero, because I think that’s what she is… some sort of futuristic warrior princess.

a black and white drawing of a nude man with his face nearly enclosed by what looks like a venus fly trap

Another favorite! Oh, geez. I think this might have been the first time I drew a man’s body and thought, “YES! I’m getting the hang of this.”

Were I to draw this one again, I would have made his face a different color. The blue feels too alien, when I was trying to go for a monster of nature. I do love, love, love it, though!

I hope you’ve enjoyed my sketches this week! If you’re interested in any pieces, or just wanted to talk about them, feel free to message me on here or on instagram.
