This week we’ve got plenty of colorful skins! There seems to be a slight segway away from the outer space series here. I dip into it a few more times, and I think I do some in the future as well, but this was the week that I tried exploring something new. I think by the time we get to “Mountainhead,” I have a clearer idea of what look I was going for.
I may have mentioned this before, but part of the inspiration for my underwater, outer space, and now colorful skins series was the increase in awareness of the Black Lives Matter movement back in 2020. I realized – hey, I am always drawing white people. I wanted to break away from that and try something new. Something where, it could be anybody’s skin color because it’s nobody’s skin color. It’s been really fun to explore. The outer space series is one of my favorites, and I’ve been really enjoying colorful skins as well.
My favorites from this week are without a doubt “Mountainhead” and “Little Reminders.” I remember sharing “Mountainhead” with one of my friends, and she had said it reminds her of a circus freak on LSD. I’ll take it!
One thing I want to mention, too, is that I loved carrying out the white polka dot look. It somehow has turned into a trademark for me, where I am always drawing those little bubbles and the white polka dots (which were formally stars, and now are… glitter? Who knows).
Anyway. I hope you enjoy the colorful skins. There will be plenty more. In some ways, I am still working on the colorful skins series, just in a different capacity.
As always, feel free to write me on here or message me on instagram if you have any interest in my pieces. Be sure to check out last week’s post as well!
