This week we’re looking at a lot of missing faces and also the celebration of my sobriety! On April 26th, 2020 I celebrated eight years sober – which is the same amount of time I was using for. It was a pretty cool milestone to achieve!
This post has some of my favorite drawings of the year – the bookends being my favorites of this share.
It’s clear that I was getting more comfortable exploring with poses that felt unnatural and scary to draw for me – particularly with heads tilted backwards. I struggle with foreshortening and… generally, models that aren’t standing straight towards the camera… but I’m starting to get out of my comfort zone here, and I think for the most part it’s working really well.
My style seems to be coming through, and I think that’s something for me to be excited about.
The piece with the title “A Frida Moment” is a self-portrait. I drew it on my sober anniversary. It doesn’t totally look like me, but so what?!
I will say – I love the drawings of these people without faces. It can be tough – because I want to get better at drawing faces, too, so I have to keep drawing them… but I love the absence of a face. It’s self-effacing, elusive, mysterious. I think it is, anyway.
I hope you all enjoy this week’s posts! Please DM me on instagram or contact me here if you have any questions or are interested in a particular piece!
